Trevor has been a shearing instructor for the University of California’s shearing school held at the Hopland Research and Extension Center (HREC) since 2016. Based on techniques he acquired during formal training and employment as a shearer in New Zealand, Australia, and Europe, he focuses on teaching students how to limit stress to both the sheep and shearer. While enrolling in a course taught by him is generally the best way to learn, private instruction is also available.

Sheep Shearing School

Sheep Shearing and Basic Care 101
Hosted by the UC Hopland Research and Extension Center in Hopland, California

This course is geared towards the beginner shearer and gives you the foundation and confidence you need in order to shear your own sheep, shear for others, or try your hand at commercial sheep shearing domestically and abroad. The primary focus of the course is sheep shearing, but we do include some basic sheep care information for those completely new to the world of sheep (experienced shepherds are sure to learn something new as well).
